The catechu tree gives itself to the world in more ways than we can count. Its bark and sap are used for various medicines. Its seeds, a rich source of protein. Its wood, coveted for furniture and tools. Its branches, cut for livestock feed. And maybe most notably, its heartwood extract, cutch, has its own myriad of uses: flavoring food, acting as a preservative, the dyeing of fibers. Humans have found uses for almost every piece of the tree, and cutch continues to find ways to give itself however it’s needed. The rich browns + deep bronzes it produces are just one stunning reminder of all the ways in which cutch gives itself to the world and the purpose we hope to find in doing the same.
